PixtaStock Starts Their Services in Southeast Asian Markets

A service-based stock photo website from Japan, PixtaStock, is targeting the Southeast Asian market by opening a new branch office in Singapore. They are trying to offer more Asian images. PixtaStock can be used by consumers in Indonesia to buy photos and sell photos – the latter being especially for photographers.

We talked with the Business Development Leader at PixtaStock, Yusuke Saito, based in Singapore. According to Yusuke, expansion into Southeast Asia is in order to collect more images based on Asian content than most other stock photo services, especially those based in the U.S., because not many have these kind of images. As companies from Asia, they want to create a community of contributors in this region.

In Southeast Asia, PixtaStock has a long-term photography community in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, by building networks and specialized training for the manufacture of stock photo. When mentioned about Indonesia, Yusuke said he definitely will enter Indonesia in the near future, although not to the extent of such community development as in neighboring countries. Hopefully if the Indonesians photographers show high interest for this kind of service, PixtaStock will think twice about suspending operations there.

PixtaStock sells photos with the concept of a different unit price for each size. Size S of 640 × 480 pixels dimensions for example is sold at the price of $5 per piece, while the XL size of 5200 × 3900 pixels dimensions is sold at the price of $50 per piece. All prices are in USD.

Currently PixtaStock has more than 4.6 million images in its database with a majority of content from Japan. Outside of Japanese-themed photo, PixtaStock currently has a 220,000 photo collection, with a majority of content from Non-Japanese Asian contributors. PixtaStock is targeting to acquire 1 million images at the end of this year, with a revenue of $1 million.
Users in Indonesia who want to use the photos from PixtaStock can purchase them by credit card. For photographers who want to sell their picture through PixtaStock, immediately set up a PayPal account or Skrill / Moneybookers to receive payment of the royalty scheme as listed on this page .

What if you want to buy a photo but feel the price offered is too expensive? Is there a subscription scheme as well as in other services? According to Yusuke, it already has its own subscription-based service called Imasia. Imasia is currently serving the Japanese market and is expected to be expanded into the international market this summer.

As for why there are two separate services, among PixtaStock selling images per unit and the subscription-based Imasia, Yusuke says that there are two different formats to accommodate two different needs. There are clients who need stock photos in large quantities, such as advertising agencies or media, thus requiring a subscription service. Some are just looking to buy one or two pieces only for personal needs.

Isn’t there a startup from Indonesia interested in entering this segment of stock photos?
